Founded in 1906, Jinan University, known as the “highest academic institution for overseas Chinese”, is a key university included in the Double First-Class Initiative, as well as a key university supported under the Guangdong High-Level University Development Plan. On October 24, 2018, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, visited Jinan University and delivered an important speech. He urged the University to uphold the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, carry forward the spirit of Jinan University, maintain its distinctive educational traditions, and continue to cultivate outstanding students and strengthen institutional development, while providing better opportunities for overseas Chinese students to study in China and carry forward Chinese culture.
Jinan University offers a comprehensive range of academic disciplines, covering 12 major fields of study, including literature, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, science, engineering, medicine, education, arts, and interdisciplinary studies. With balanced strengths across the humanities, sciences, engineering, and medicine, the University demonstrates the distinctive advantages of a comprehensive institution and strong potential for interdisciplinary integration. It currently consists of 38 schools/colleges, 59 departments, and 18 directly affiliated research institutes, offering 108 undergraduate programs. As of March 2025, 19 disciplines at Jinan University rank within the top 1% globally in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), placing the University third among universities in Guangdong Province. Among them, 13 disciplines rank within the top 5‰ globally, and Pharmacology and Toxicology ranks within the top 1‰ worldwide. In the fifth round of the Ministry of Education’s national discipline evaluation, 37 first-level disciplines of the University participated, showing significant overall improvement.
Rooted in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, Jinan University operates five campuses located in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai, with its main campus situated in Shipai Subdistrict, Tianhe District, Guangzhou. The University currently enrolls 48,393 full-time students, including 31,851 undergraduate students and 16,542 graduate students. Among them, 16,110 are students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, overseas Chinese communities, and other international students, with nearly 2,000 from Macao.
Jinan University actively promotes its internationalization strategy and has established 148 admission centers in 82 countries and regions worldwide. In 2025, the University hosted 2,012 international students from 97 countries and regions. It has signed academic exchange and cooperation agreements, memoranda of understanding, or letters of intent with 252 universities and cultural and research institutions in 54 countries and regions across five continents, as well as Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, carrying out active international collaboration in scientific research and talent development. The International School, which offers programs taught entirely in English, has been operating for more than 20 years. The Jinan University–University of Birmingham Joint Institute, approved by the Ministry of Education, has demonstrated outstanding educational outcomes. In addition, Jinan University’s College of Japan, an overseas educational institution of the University, has been officially recognized by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and has begun enrolling students.
Adhering to its educational principle of “serving overseas Chinese and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan”, Jinan University has, since its founding, educated more than 500,000 graduates from over 170 countries and regions across five continents, as well as Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, including nearly 80,000 alumni from Hong Kong. As the saying goes, “Wherever there is the sea, there are alumni of Jinan University.” Today, Jinan University has become the preferred destination for students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese communities pursuing higher education in Chinese mainland.

I. Eligibility Requirements
Overseas Chinese students or other international students (non-Chinese citizens) who possess a high school diploma or equivalent educational qualifications, are aged 18 to 25, have good moral character, no criminal record, and are in good physical and mental health are eligible to apply to Jinan University.
According to the Notice of the Ministry of Education on Regulating. Admission of International Students in China's Higher Education Institutions (JWH [2020] No.12), applicants whose both parents or one parent is a Chinese citizen and has settled abroad, and who acquired foreign nationality at birth and do not possess Chinese nationality, or applicants who were residents of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan and later immigrated and acquired foreign nationality, must meet the following requirements when applying as international students: They must hold a valid foreign passport or proof of foreign nationality for at least four years, and must have the record of residing abroad for at least two years within the most recent four years (May 1, 2022 – April 30, 2026) (Nine months of actual residence abroad within one year shall be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).
II. Admission Channels
(I) Admission through Application Review
Applicants who possess a high school diploma or equivalent academic qualifications may apply through the Admission through Application Review. They may be recommended by Jinan University overseas application centers, Chinese embassies or consulates abroad, overseas Chinese organizations or schools, or prominent members of overseas Chinese communities, or may apply independently with two letters of recommendation from teachers. Based on the applicant’s language proficiency, academic performance during secondary education, conduct evaluation, and health status, those who meet the admission requirements upon review will be admitted on a merit-based selection basis.
Language Proficiency Requirements:
Applicants for programs taught in Chinese must achieve Level 5 (180 points or above) in the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK).
Applicants for programs offered by the International School, whose native language is not English, must demonstrate English proficiency by achieving one of the following: IELTS 5.5 or above (with no band below 5.0), TOEFL (iBT) 80 or above, or an SAT score of 1030 or above.
(II) Admission through Entrance Examinations
Applicants who participate in the Joint Entrance Examination for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese, and Other Foreign Students by Jinan University and Huaqiao University (hereinafter referred to as the “Joint Entrance Examination of the Two Universities”), and list Jinan University as their first-choice institution will be admitted based on merit-based selection.

IV.Application Process

Notes:
①Overseas application centers are responsible only for on-site confirmation of online applications and the collection of application materials and application fees. They do not accept modifications or late submissions of online application information. Once the application fee has been paid, it is non-refundable.
②All application information must be true and valid. Any false information will result in disqualification from application or admission. The email address and contact number provided in the application system will serve as the applicant’s primary contact information during the admission process. Applicants must ensure that all information entered is accurate. Any consequences arising from incorrect information shall be borne by the applicant.
③For the Joint Entrance Examination of the Two Universities, applicants must complete on-site confirmation procedures at the Shipai Campus of Jinan University (see Application Instructions for details). Online pre-registration records will automatically become invalid if applicants fail to complete on-site confirmation within the specified period. Applicants who are unable to attend in person due to special circumstances must submit a written request and authorize a relative to complete the confirmation on their behalf. The authorized representative shall present the applicant’s identification document, the representative’s identification document, an authorization letter signed by the applicant, and other required application materials. Each representative may complete confirmation procedures for only one applicant.
V. Application Materials
1.[Application Form] The Application Form for Admission of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese and Other International Students by Jinan University and Huaqiao University (to be completed through the online application system).
2. [Passport] The applicant’s passport (If the applicant is currently in China, the most recent valid Chinese visa page and entry–exit stamps must also be provided).
3. [China Scholastic Competency Assessment Score Report] CSCA score report(Application website: http://csca.cn/home).
4. [Diploma] and [Academic Transcripts]
High school graduation certificate or proof of academic qualification at the high school level or above, together with official transcripts for all years of high school study issued by the graduating high school. International standardized test scores may also be submitted if available (e.g., SAT, ACT, A-Level, AP, IB).
5. [Language Proficiency Certificate] Score reports for HSK, IELTS, or TOEFL (scores must have been obtained within the past two years).
6. [Personal Statement] Self-introduction, previous educational experience, and study plans in China.
7. [Recommendation Letter] One letter of recommendation, which may be issued by Jinan University overseas admission offices, local overseas Chinese organizations, prominent members of overseas Chinese communities, or the applicant’s graduating high school.
8. [Medical Examination Report] Applicants for medical-related programs must provide a medical examination report issued within the past six months. The template for the medical report can be found in the attached Medical Examination Form.
9. [Certificate of No Criminal Record] The certificate must have been issued within six months prior to the application date.
10. [Additional Supporting Documents] In accordance with the Notice of the Ministry of Education on Regulating Admission of International Students in China's Higher Education Institutions (JWH [2020] No.12):
(1) Applicants who were originally residents of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan and later acquired foreign nationality must submit: ① proof of cancellation of Chinese nationality or household registration; ② proof of acquisition of foreign nationality; ③ entry and exit records for the past four years (up to April 30, 2026).
(2) Applicants who acquired foreign nationality at birth abroad, and whose both parents or one parent is a Chinese citizen, must submit: ① proof that the applicant obtained foreign nationality at birth; ② proof that the parent(s) (the Chinese citizen parent) had permanent residence abroad before the applicant’s birth; ③ entry and exit records for the past four years (up to April 30, 2026).
★When necessary, the University may request applicants to submit additional supporting materials. Applicants are advised to regularly check their email and the application system for updates.
Notes:
①Current-year high school graduates may initially submit a pre-graduation certificate issued by their current school. The official high school graduation certificate must be uploaded to the application system before August 15, 2026. Failure to submit the certificate before the deadline may result in cancellation of admission.
②All certificates, notarized documents, or authentication materials submitted by applicants must be original documents in Chinese or English. If the documents are issued in other languages, applicants must upload both the original document and a notarized Chinese or English translation. Applicants who are admitted must submit all original application materials for verification after enrollment.

4. In accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education, all international students studying in China must purchase medical insurance at their own expense upon enrollment. The insurance fee details will be provided in the New Student Registration Guide.
Notes:
①The above fee standards are subject to approval by the Guangdong Provincial Price Bureau for 2026.
②The tuition fee for the Accounting program of the International School (taught entirely in English) includes the CGA (CPA Canada) course fees jointly offered with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada, amounting to RMB 6,000 per academic year.
③The tuition fee for all programs offered by the College of Chinese Language and Culture is RMB 22,000 per academic year.
④Textbook fees, teaching equipment fees, meals, student association fees, medical insurance fees, and other personal expenses shall be borne by students themselves.
⑤Tuition fees for the College of Japan will be announced separately.
VII. Scholarships
1. Chinese Government Scholarship
Applicants may apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship through the Chinese embassy or consulate in their country of residence. The application period is generally from November 2025 to April 2026. Please log in toChina Scholarship Council website (www.csc.edu.cn) for more information. When completing the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form, applicants should indicate Jinan University as the intended institution.
2. Guangdong Government Scholarship for International Students in Guangdong
Applicants may apply directly through Jinan University. Outstanding students may receive a first-year scholarship of RMB 10,000.
3. Undergraduate Scholarship for Chinese Language and Culture Education of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council
Applicants must apply through Chinese embassies or consulates abroad, or schools or institutions authorized by them. Applicants are required to sign an agreement with local overseas Chinese associations or schools, committing to return to their home country after graduation and engage in Chinese language and culture education for at least four years.
4. “Silk Road” Chinese Government Scholarship

5. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship for Major in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages

VIII. Accommodation, Medical Care, and Other Living Services
Jinan University operates five campuses located in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai, with its main campus situated in Shipai, Guangzhou. The University covers a total campus area of 2.2681 million square meters, with 1.7876 million square meters of building space and 455,400 square meters of student dormitories. The University library holds 4.2549 million volumes.
Student dormitory rooms are equipped with beds, luggage racks, small wardrobes, desks, chairs, telephones, internet access ports, air conditioning, and bathrooms, although single-occupancy rooms are not provided.
The University operates a campus medical clinic and ten affiliated hospitals, including four Grade A tertiary hospitals, providing medical services for students and staff at any time. During their study period, students are required to pay the national medical insurance fee and are entitled to basic public medical services in accordance with national regulations.
Several student dining halls are available on campus, offering a variety of meal options. Monthly meal expenses generally range from RMB 1,000 to RMB 1,500.
In addition, the campus provides various service facilities, including banks, post offices, barbershops, laundry services, repair services, bookstores, supermarkets, restaurants, and photo studios.
The University’s Student Activity Center, large gymnasium, and various sports facilities provide venues for academic, recreational, and sports activities. The University hosts numerous student clubs, including calligraphy, martial arts, animation, and orienteering, creating a vibrant and diverse campus culture. Student organizations are highly active, and the University fosters a strong atmosphere of innovation and entrepreneurship. Jinan University students have achieved outstanding results in a wide range of domestic and international competitions in academics, culture, sports, and the arts, including the “Internet+”, the “Challenge Cup,” the National College Student Entrepreneurship Competition, and the National University Games. Notable alumni athletes such as Su Bingtian, Chen Aisen, and Xie Siyi have won honors for China in major international competitions including the Olympic Games. Jinan University has been selected as one of the first national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform. Its graduates are highly regarded by employers both in China and abroad, and the University’s employment rate consistently ranks among the top among comparable institutions.

②If any adjustments are made to the above programs, the program name and reporting location indicated in the official Admission Letter shall prevail.
③Applicants for the programs of Physical Education, Broadcasting and Hosting Arts, Calligraphy, Animation, Drama and Film Directing, Drama and Film Literature, and Sound Recording Arts shall, in principle, must list these programs as their first-choice program and must provide relevant works or award certificates.
④A physical examination will be conducted after enrollment. Students admitted to medical-related programs (including Clinical Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Stomatology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Chinese Materia Medica, and Biopharmaceutical Sciences) who are found to have color blindness or color weakness will be transferred to programs other than the medical disciplines.
⑤Applicants for the Chinese Language Education program offered by the College of Chinese Language and Culture must apply through the Special Enrollment Scheme for the Overseas Chinese Language and Culture Education Scholarship Program. Specific requirements shall be subject to the relevant admission brochure issued by the College of Chinese Language and Culture of Jinan University.
IX. University Preparatory Program
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for undergraduate programs may apply for the University Preparatory Program (Arts or Science streams).
Preparatory Program A (Arts / Science): One-year program. Upon completion of the program and passing the completion examination, students who meet the graduation requirements will be awarded a Preparatory Program Completion Certificate issued by Jinan University. Students who pass all courses and demonstrate good conduct may proceed directly to the corresponding undergraduate programs at Jinan University.
Preparatory Program B (Arts / Science): One-year program. After completing the program, students may progress to undergraduate study through one of the following three pathways:
1. Based on the overall academic performance and conduct evaluation, approximately 20% of outstanding students may be recommended for direct admission to relevant undergraduate programs at Jinan University without taking an entrance examination.
2. Students whose annual academic performance meets the passing requirements, who are not recommended for direct admission and have not received any disciplinary sanctions, may take the direct advancement examination for Preparatory Program A. Those who pass all subjects may be directly admitted to the relevant undergraduate programs of Jinan University.
3. Students who are neither recommended nor directly advanced may take the Joint Entrance Examination of the Two Universities or the National Joint Entrance Examination in the same year.
Main Courses:
Arts Stream: Chinese Language, English, Mathematics, History, and Geography.
Science Stream: Chinese Language, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

1. This Admission Brochure is interpreted by the Undergraduate Admission Office of Jinan University.
2. In the event of any policy adjustments by the Ministry of Education or Jinan University, the latest policies shall prevail.
